What Size Bouncy Castle Will Fit in My Garden?

Choosing a Bouncy castle to hire in Liverpool is exciting, but before you pick a theme or design, there is one important job to do first: measure your garden properly.

Bouncy castles come in many different sizes, and the inflatable itself is only part of the space you need. You also need enough room for safe setup, anchoring equipment, the blower and clear access around the inflatable.

This guide will help you measure your garden and choose a bouncy castle that fits comfortably.

Start With the Usable Space

The first step is to measure the area where you would like the bouncy castle to go.

Measure:

  • the full width of the available space;
  • the full length of the available space;
  • any restrictions around the edges;
  • access from the road or driveway to the garden.

Try to measure the actual usable area, rather than the complete size of the garden.

Things that can reduce your available space include:

  • sheds;
  • trees and bushes;
  • washing lines;
  • garden furniture;
  • trampolines;
  • raised beds;
  • ponds;
  • steps;
  • low branches.

A large garden does not always mean a large inflatable will fit if the clear setup area is limited.

Do Not Measure for the Inflatable Alone

One of the most common mistakes is looking at the size of a bouncy castle and assuming a garden of exactly the same size will be enough.

For example, if an inflatable measures 12ft by 15ft, you should not assume that a space measuring exactly 12ft by 15ft is suitable.

Extra room may be needed for:

  • safe clearance around the inflatable;
  • anchoring points;
  • the blower;
  • access during setup;
  • safe entry and exit.

Always check the information shown on the individual product page before booking.

What if I Have a Small Garden?

A smaller garden does not necessarily mean you cannot hire a small bouncy castle.

Compact inflatables can be a great choice for:

  • smaller gardens;
  • younger children;
  • tighter spaces;
  • some indoor venues.

The important thing is to measure first and choose an inflatable that suits the space you actually have available.

Browse our Small Bouncy Castles if space is limited.

Do Bouncy Castles With Slides Need More Room?

Usually, a bouncy castle with an attached slide will need more space than a standard bouncy castle.

The overall shape can also be different, so it is important to check both the width and length rather than choosing based on appearance alone.

Before booking a combo castle, think about:

  • the total garden space;
  • where the slide is positioned;
  • clear access to the entrance;
  • room around the inflatable;
  • the ages of the children attending.

If you have enough space and want more than a traditional bouncing area, browse our Bouncy Castles With Slides.

Check the Ground

It is also important to think about the surface where the inflatable will be set up.

Before booking, check that the area is:

  • reasonably level;
  • clear of sharp objects;
  • free from garden furniture and toys;
  • suitable for the equipment you have chosen.

If you are unsure whether your garden surface is suitable, contact us before booking and explain where you would like the inflatable to go.

Check Your Garden Access

The inflatable has to reach the setup area.

Before booking, look at the route from the road or driveway to your garden and check for:

  • narrow side gates;
  • tight corners;
  • steps;
  • parked vehicles;
  • bins or storage items;
  • low branches or other obstructions.

A suitable setup space is only useful if the equipment can be safely moved into the garden.

If access is unusual or particularly narrow, it is better to ask before booking.

Remember the Power Supply

Inflatable equipment needs power for the blower.

For our inflatable bookings, you will normally need access to a standard or multiple 240V mains plug sockets within a maxiumum 25 metres of the setup area.

Think about where the nearest suitable socket is when deciding where you would like the bouncy castle to go.

How to Measure Your Garden Properly

Follow these simple steps:

1. Clear the area

Move garden furniture, toys and anything else that could affect your measurements.

2. Measure the width

Measure the narrowest usable part of the setup area.

3. Measure the length

Measure from the front to the back of the clear space.

4. Check above the area

Look for low branches, washing lines or anything else above the proposed setup position.

5. Measure the access

Check gates and narrow spaces between the delivery point and the garden.

6. Compare your measurements

Open the product page for the inflatable you like and compare your available space with the information shown.

Which Type of Bouncy Castle Is Best for My Space?

A simple way to narrow your choice is:

Smaller garden

Standard family garden

Larger garden

You may also have room for a Large bouncy castle, inflatable slides or obstacle courses.

The best choice depends on the exact measurements, the ages attending and the type of party you are planning.

Planning an Indoor Party Instead?

Measuring is just as important for an indoor venue.

For a hall booking, you need to check:

  • floor space;
  • ceiling height;
  • door access;
  • setup times;
  • collection times.

Never choose an inflatable for an indoor venue based only on its floor measurements. Height can be just as important.

You can also visit our Halls & Venues page for more useful information.
